Yard Sale 2012 – the grand result!

We are delighted to announce that, despite the uncooperative weather on Sunday, 13th May, our total takings almost matched the sunny 2011 result.  With exceptionally cold, windy weather, many of us opted for selling indoors which actually probably proved to be an added attraction for some customers!  Thank goodness the rain held off until 4pm!

The total turnover was £2099.90 (£2110.20 in 2011) of which SCRA has been given £460.03 (subject to counting by our treasurer!) thereby almost reaching last year’s figure of £550.40.  Furthermore, 5 vendors were raising money for their own chosen charity and the total raised for all 5 (minus any kind donations to SCRA) amounts to £656.72 (compared to just under £400 last year).
The star performer in terms of a team effort were Stockbridge Pipe Band and Davidson’s Mains Juvenile Band with their home baking, live music and bric-a-brac sale as well as bringing us all lots of additional customers with a bit of cash in their pockets so we’re very grateful to Rebecca, Clare and co for participating and we look forward to seeing them again on 3rd June when the Stockbridge Pipe Band opens our jubileeparty.
Streets ahead of every other individual vendor came Alexis in Teviotdale Place who set up her silver jewellery shop in the vestibule (see her photo and others of the day in our gallery), just accommodating 2 customers at a time, thereby creating such intrigue that a queue formed and sales were plentiful!  Since lots of us missed out on a chance to visit Alexis’ vestibule on Sunday, you can see her silvercraft at www.AlexisSouthamJewellery.com or her online shop at www.etsy.com/shop/AlexisSoutham.
Thank you again to everyone who helped make the day such a success: whether you baked, advertised, printed posters, spread the word on Facebook and Twitter, painted faces, made refreshments or much-needed hot soup, cleared your attic, produced preserves or delicate fairies or sold your toys or generally browsed, bought, chatted and enjoyed the Colonies, your contribution is much appreciated.
