A question was recently raised on the Grapevine about what size of shed is appropriate or allowed in a Colonies garden.
In discussions with the Planning Department, we were told that the Council no longer specifies a maximum size or volume for a shed but deals with each application on its own merits, on the basis that any shed should be suitable for a Colonies garden. The all-important factor is that you must apply for planning permission before erecting a shed. As a first step you should contact the Planning Helpdesk on 0131 529 3550 or planning@edinburgh.gov.uk.
Irrespective of what the Planning Department says, it is also very important, before erecting a new shed, to consider its impact on your neighbours and have a discussion with them.
