Colonies Carols 2011

We were lucky this time to have a relatively mild evening, after the deep and treacherous snowy conditions of the last two Decembers.  For a change, we began in the west at Reid Terrace, working our way east – how apt! – at 4.30pm and were delighted to be joined by a new resident with his accordion which made an enormous difference to the strength of our music this year – thank you, Neil!  The number of participants was greater than ever and peaked at about 45 fairly early  with about another 20 residents who were only able to join in for part of our 2 1/2 hour session so, all in all, it was a record breaker!  This time, we remembered to hand the collecting cans around ourselves, thereby ensuring we weren’t missing out in funds by having so many homes vacated by singers!  It was wonderful to have so many young children with us for as long as possible before the cold got the better of them!  The charity chosen by residents (via a vote on this website) for our collection was St Columba’s Hospice and the fund-raisers gratefully received an excellent total of
